<p>In my vocabulary coupling is largely influenced by thinking of the opposite of <a href="/notes/ltytbbfyqd7nsp5adsrfvb1">decoupling</a></p>
<p>However, the term as I understand comes from mechanical engineering <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coupling">Coupling (wiki)</a>: </p>
<blockquote>
<p>A coupling is a device used to connect two shafts together... The primary purpose of couplings is to <strong>join two pieces</strong>... Couplings <strong>do not normally allow disconnection</strong> of shafts during operation. </p>
</blockquote>
<p>In my mind something that is coupled is something that is tied together in a way that does not easily detach. </p>
